What are CELO and Celo stablecoins and what's the difference?

CELO and Celo stablecoins are assets supported on the Celo Network. The two main differences between these assets are function and price.

Celo stablecoins track the value of their fiat counterpart. For example, the Celo Dollar (cUSD) tracks the US Dollar, and Celo Euro (cEUR) tracks the Euro. Since they track a fiat currency, they are said to be 'stable.' They are also built for accessibility and ease of use, so you can easily pay, save and send them using Valora.

Valora supports the following Celo stablecoins:

  • Celo Dollar (cUSD)

  • Celo Euro (cEUR)

  • Celo Real (cREAL)

CELO is the native asset and core utility, governance, reserve, and staking mechanism for the Celo Network. When you own CELO, you can vote on how the Celo Network evolves and grows over time. CELO has a fixed supply and a variable value related to the total value of stablecoins in circulation in the Celo ecosystem. Learn more about governance on the Celo Network.
